Leek Pie Supper – Shrove Tuesday 21st February
Following last year’s very successful event we are again holding our Leek Pie Supper at The Old Swan courtesy of Paul Dexter. The Chef wishes to improve on the quality of the pies they bought last year and make them in house to a true recipe from a Barton Leek. The event will begin at 6.30pm, to give you time to buy drinks from the bar, eating at 7.00 pm. The tickets will be £12.50 each to include the Leek Pies, potatoes, vegetables and gravy followed by a chocolate brownie desert to be served with cream or ice-cream. You will be able to order a gluten free, vegetarian or vegan meal and caramel apple pie which is vegan desert, but please order at the time of buying tickets and tell guests you wish to bring that Leek Pies do contain meat… (and yes, we did have this issue last year). We are asked to let Paul know the number of gluten free/vegetarian/vegan meals with 2 days’ notice.
As per last year the event will be for 44 persons only, so you are advised to call 01604 810051 and speak to Jill or David Timms to book your tickets as soon as possible as we sold out within a week last year!! It will be really helpful if you could pay for and collect tickets from our home.
We would like to hold a Raffle to raise more funds for the Church, so please give your contributions to Helen Winrow, Church Warden.
Open Church Welcome Team
The lovely volunteers who sit in the church during the week to enable it to be open for visitors are having a break for a few months, while it is so cold!
So many thanks to them all, plus Graham Halsall who puts the rota together. We look forward to their continued support over the summer. In the meantime the church will be open "By Appointment Only" and this can be arranged by phoning: 07775 708771 or 01604 810051
Looking ahead from Catherine Johnson
There will be a special Deanery service of Stainer's "Crucifixion" on Sunday 2nd April (Palm Sunday) at 6pm in All Hallows church, Wellingborough. For those of you that are not familiar with this work, it is an oratorio, composed in 1887, for full choir plus tenor and bass soloists, written to be performed during Holy Week. There are several well-known hymns to join in with during the service. This will replace our usual Evensong that Sunday.
Lay Worship Leaders course
I am now almost half way through the course so wanted to take this opportunity to say thank you for your support. So far, I've had 6 online sessions and 2 face to face meetings with the other 5 candidates, and can say that I have learnt LOTS! WE have been looking at the Old Testament, which at times has been challenging, and are moving onto look at the role of music in worship, starting off with an in-depth look at the Psalms.
I have to complete a personal project over the next 4 months - mine is on the Taizé community and their style of worship, so I hope to organise a Taizé-style act of worship soon for you all to enjoy! If anyone has any experience of Taizé worship, please come and speak to me as this would be really helpful.

Shared Lunches
We are going to start running monthly shared lunches to which everyone is invited. It will be a time to meet and chat over a simple lunch. The idea is that you bring some food and drink - enough to feed you and your family - and we all just share in whatever arrives. Generally, cold food is easier to deal with - for example quiches, sausage rolls, pizzas, salads, bread, cheese, nibbles plus cakes, fruit or simple puddings but bring what you like. The first shared lunch will be on Sunday 12th February starting about 12pm after the usual refreshments. For more info please contact Derek & Margaret Bish - 811539.
FAIRTRADE NEWS - SOME SAD, SOME THINGS TO CELEBRATE- The sad news is that Traidcraft Plc has gone into administration. It's from them that we buy most of our products and they inspired us & supported us as we started with a monthly stall after church to progress to our lovely little EB Fairtrade shop today. For now we still plan to keep our shop open, explore other fairtrade & ethical suppliers and keep on campaigning for a fairer & better world!
It's even more important than ever to keep supporting us as the charity set up by them, Transform Trade (formerly known as Traidcraft Exchange), will continue so any profits and donations will still go to them.
Please pray for all involved, especially the management and staff who have worked so hard for over 40 years to improve the trading conditions & life chances for producers from poor communities around the globe.
Please continue to support trade justice by buying Fair trade products whenever you can and especially from us of course, & even more especially as we celebrate 10 years as a fairtrade shop this year! For the first of our events we're teaming up with the EB Co-op on Saturday 11th March 10am -1pm, more about that next month. Meanwhile we're open every Saturday 10 -1 and please join us for our next cafe:
Saturday February 11thth 10 – 1pm Fairtrade Café & Second hand Booksale
Do be there if you can as we start to introduce our new season products Enjoy chatting, browsing our products, & fresh coffee & yummy homemade cakes… Everyone welcome

Hassock Sale
We no longer use most of the hassocks, as most of the church family prefer to sit to pray, we would like to offer those we have in storage, to anyone wo would like one or more. You may have them and all we ask is a donation to church funds. Please speak to one of the Church Wardens or Assistant Wardens, David, Helen, Mike, Bob or Jill who will be able to help you.
Mothering Sunday Flowers
It has been a tradition, on Mothering Sunday, to give a small bunch of Daffodils and greenery to the members of our church family who care for others. This year, Mothering Sunday falls on 19th March. We used to give to just ladies, but these days, men are carers too.
We need a Team Leader and a small group of volunteers to make the Mothering Sunday bunches on the Saturday 18th, after buying the daffodils (the bill goes to our Treasurer, Derek) and cutting the greenery from volunteer providers from the church family.
If you are able to be the Team Leader, please contact Jill Timms who will be able to let you know all about the tradition.
It will be a real shame if this tradition ends if we do not have a Team Leader and volunteers.
Internal Redecoration of the Church
It is quite evident from the areas of peeling paintwork that this is much needed. In fact, nobody can remember when this was last carried out. Discussions have been held and documentation is being prepared for a faculty application to be made. It is planned to have the work undertaken late summer. It is going to be expensive and funds will be needed to be raised.
